Why architects choose OnGravy

1

Milestones billed without a reminder

When a milestone is marked approved, the invoice auto-drafts at the right share of the contract. No more "I forgot to bill the DD stage three months ago". Outstandings rolled up per project so collection calls have actual data behind them.

2

You finally know which projects pay

Per-project P&L every time. Design fees in, sub-consultants out, travel, printing, site visits — all allocated. Sign the next engagement letter with eyes open. Stop accidentally subsidising long-running projects with margin from short ones.

3

Foreign-client paperwork doesn't bite

USD invoicing, Form 15CA/CB, PE-day tracking, AD-Cat-1 bank routing, GSTR-1 export-of-services lines — all handled in the background. You focus on the design. The remittance paperwork is on us.

What is included

📐

Project-based milestone billing

At /dashboard/architect-projects — create a project with contract value + start/end dates; the 5-stage Council-of-Architecture milestone split auto-loads (Concept 10% / Schematic 20% / DD 30% / CD 25% / CA 15%). Mark milestones COMPLETED → BILL with one click each. Per-project P&L: invoiced + completed-unbilled + pending. Revert state transitions if you misclick.

📊

Per-project P&L and BOQ tracking

Every project gets its own ledger: design fees in, sub-consultant fees out, travel, site visits, printing. Optional Bill-of-Quantities tracking so you know what slipped through scope. Per-project profit margin visible on one screen.

🏗

GST on under-construction handled

Architectural services are GST 18%. Property under construction is taxable at 5% / 12% depending on category. RERA-registered projects have GSTIN-linked reporting obligations. OnGravy classifies each line and files GSTR-1 correctly without you flipping switches.

🌍

Foreign-client + PE considerations

Designing a Dubai villa or a Singapore office from your Mumbai studio? OnGravy flags Permanent-Establishment risk based on on-site days, files Form 15CA/CB for inward remittance, and routes foreign-currency invoices through your AD-Cat-1 bank correctly.

🤝

Sub-consultant + retainer mgmt

At /dashboard/sub-consultants — roster of structural / MEP / facade / etc. consultants with their default share % and §194J TDS rate per row. At /dashboard/retainers — monthly retainer billing (auto-generated via cron). Per-project share auto-calc on milestone bill lands with the architect milestone-billing flow.

🎙

Voice voucher at site visits

Between site visits, speak: "Cash paid 800 rupees Auto rickshaw to Bhandup site visit project Greene Lane" — OnGravy logs the entry against the project ledger. Approve on the phone, move to the next meeting.

📱

WhatsApp invoicing to clients

Clients prefer WhatsApp over email. OnGravy sends invoices + UPI / Razorpay links via WhatsApp, reconciles automatically when paid, sends polite reminders at 7 / 14 / 30 day intervals.

Frequently asked

Am I eligible for Section 44ADA presumptive taxation?

Yes — architecture is on the notified list of specified professions under §44ADA. Up to ₹75L gross professional receipts, you can declare 50% presumed profit and file ITR-4 without maintaining detailed books. OnGravy keeps proper books in the background regardless, so the moment you cross the ₹75L threshold (large RERA project, big retainer year) you have everything ready for ITR-3.

Most of my work is milestone-based. How does that get billed?

Standard Council-of-Architecture milestones are pre-loaded: Concept 10%, Schematic 20%, Design Development 30%, Construction Documents 25%, Construction Admin 15%. As you mark each milestone "approved by client", the invoice auto-drafts at the agreed share of the total contract value. You can customise the milestone split per project if your engagement letter differs.

My client is paying in USD from Dubai. What does OnGravy do?

Foreign-client invoicing triggers a special flow: OnGravy generates a USD-denominated invoice, applies the SBI mid-rate at invoice date for INR book-keeping, prepares Form 15CA / 15CB for the inward remittance, flags Permanent-Establishment risk if your on-site days cross 90 in a fiscal year, and routes the payment through your AD-Cat-1 bank with the correct purpose code. You sign off; we generate the paperwork.

How do I track which projects are actually profitable?

Per-project ledger: design fees in, sub-consultant fees out, travel, printing, site visits, software subscriptions allocated by project. Run a project-level P&L any time. When you are deciding to sign the next engagement letter, you have honest data on whether similar projects in the past actually paid or just felt productive.

I work with sub-consultants (structural, MEP). How do I split fees?

For each project, define the sub-consultant share at engagement time. As you receive milestone payments from the client, OnGravy auto-generates the sub-consultant invoice at the agreed share, deducts §194J TDS at 10%, and shows you the net payable via UPI. The audit trail is intact for both your books and theirs.

What does it cost?

Business Owner ₹799/month covers a practising architect or studio owner — full books + GST + per-project ledgers, milestone billing, sub-consultant splits, foreign-client + PE handling, voice voucher, AI tax advisor, unlimited invoices. If you also keep books for other businesses, Tax Practitioner ₹1,999/month includes 3 client businesses (then +₹299/mo per additional active client) and Individual CA ₹3,499/month includes 5 (then +₹299/mo each). There is no free tier. No setup fee, cancel monthly. See all plans at ongravy.com/pricing.
